Tinctures and decoctions of St. John’s Wort are used for a wide range of gastrointestinal, respiratory, and hematopoietic pathologies, as well as for systemic and oncological diseases. St. John’s Wort tincture and oil are applied externally for the treatment of burns, wounds, skin and oral inflammations, as a calming and pain-relieving agent for migraines, as well as for nervous disorders.
Alcoholic and hydro-alcoholic extracts, as well as individual compounds of St. John’s Wort, exhibit pronounced antioxidant activity and have a strong impact on various neurochemical structures of the brain. One of the most important pharmacological manifestations of this property is its serotonin-like effect, which manifests as a mild sedative, antidepressant, and tranquilizing action. As a result, mood improves, sleep normalizes, and mental and physical activity increases. Currently, preparations based on St. John’s Wort extract are widely used as a herbal antidepressant. An important advantage of St. John’s Wort preparations as antidepressants is their low frequency of side effects.
St. John’s Wort preparations relieve blood vessel spasms, strengthen capillaries, improve venous circulation, increase bile flow, prevent the formation of gallstones, and eliminate intestinal spasms.
How to use:
Infusion: pour 2 tablespoon. herbs 200 ml of boiling water, insist in a dark place for 4 hours, strain. Take 15 ml three times a day before meals.
Decoction: 1.5 tablespoon. herbs, pour a glass of boiling water, heat in a water bath for 30 minutes without bringing to a boil, cool, filter. The finished drink can be used for drinking, washing, rinsing hair after washing.
Tea: 1 tablespoon. St. John’s wort, pour 1 cup boiling water, leave for 2-3 minutes. You can improve the taste of the drink with honey and stevia. It is used not for treatment, but for disease prevention.
Contraindications
Hypertension, pregnancy, lactation, febrile state, reduced potency, postoperative period after organ transplantation.
