The scientific name of the plant is Nepeta Cataira, although the people have come up with many other names for it, which reflect its inherent properties: catnip, lemon catnip, catnip, shandra, forty-eater and others.
Medicinal properties:
In folk medicine, catnip is most often used in the form of an aqueous infusion.
Catnip infusion is effective:
- antipyretic;
- general strengthening;
- expectorant;
- diaphoretic;
- anti-inflammatory;
- sedative.
It is recommended to use catnip for the treatment of diseases of the upper respiratory tract, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, neuroses, depression, stress, insomnia and other anxiety conditions.
Cosmetologists treat skin sores (boils, acne, edema) with an aqueous infusion of catnip, it is used as a vitamin lotion, as well as a means to strengthen hair roots to prevent baldness. For which the infusion is rubbed into the scalp.
Its use is effective in the following cases:
- various diseases of the upper respiratory tract;
- lack of appetite;
- diseases of the gastrointestinal tract; disorders in the nervous system (neuroses, depression, irritation, stressful conditions), etc.Catnip is introduced into herbal preparations that are used in the fight against insomnia, anxiety.
How to use:
Tea: 50 g of catnip per 1 liter of boiling water, then simmer in a water bath for 30 minutes. Tea should be filtered before drinking. Drinking such herbal tea is recommended for colds, sinusitis and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. You can add honey or sugar to it to taste.
Infusion: 1 ч. tablespoon. catnip in 250 ml of boiling water. Insist for 3 hours. The infusion should be filtered. The finished product is recommended to be taken orally in 1 tbsp. l. tablespoon. 3 times a day 30 minutes before meals for diseases of the stomach, intestines and to increase appetite.
Contraindications
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding;
- It is contraindicated in people suffering from tachycardia.
- If you are prone to allergic reactions, you should start using the products with small doses to check the body’s reaction.
