Healing properties
When taking a decoction of the root of Lobel’s Hellebore (Veratrum lobelianum), patients lose their craving for alcoholic beverages and develop an indifference to alcohol, to the extent that a person who abuses alcohol simply cannot drink, even if their hand instinctively reaches for the shot glass. This unique feature of the root of Lobel’s Hellebore is what makes it so distinctive.
The root of the hellebore is a toxic plantand its use should be strictly controlled and used in extreme cases. Decoctions and infusions made from Lobel’s Hellebore (Veratrum lobelianum) are commonly prepared to treat conditions such as scabies, rheumatism, and gout. Outwardly, compresses and lotions are used to treat neuralgia and arthritis with analgesic and soothing effects.
Method of application
Decoction: Pour 1 teaspoon of chopped root (2-3 g) over 75 ml of boiling water. Insist for 1 hour. Strain (keep in the refrigerator) and add 2-10 drops to all dishes and soft drinks 3 times a day. You should start with 2 drops of the infusion and gradually increase to the maximum, i.e. up to 10 drops.
Lobel’s Hellebore (Veratrum lobelianum) is not added to alcoholic beverages. For these purposes, the root of another plant, European Wild Ginger (Asarum europaeum), is used. It induces a vomiting reflex to alcohol and is often used in conjunction with Lobel’s Hellebore. After taking the root in the recommended dosage, there should be no vomiting, diarrhea, and mild malaise, weakness, apathy, and slight dizziness are considered normal. In such a weakened state, the alcoholic is less drawn to alcohol, and this is the effect.
Contraindications
Individual intolerance.
Lobel’s Hellebore (Veratrum lobelianum) is one of the most potent poisonous plants. It is very dangerous to use it. Strictly adhere to the recommended dosage and monitor the patient’s condition: if any signs of poisoning (excessive weakness, nausea, vomiting) appear, stop taking it immediately.
It is not recommended to treat patients with cardiovascular diseases using Lobel’s Hellebore (Veratrum lobelianum).
