Healing properties
The main properties of Glycyrrhiza glabra root are expectorant, emollient, and mild laxative. Glycyrrhizin increases the secretion of the bronchial glands, saponins irritate the mucous membrane of the stomach and increase the secretion of the bronchial glands. Flavonoids relieve bronchial muscle spasm. Steroids, similar in structure to adrenal cortex hormones, have an anti-inflammatory effect.
Medicines based on it significantly lower cholesterol, strengthen immunity, adjust the endocrine system, tone and act as an antidepressant.
A decoction made from Glycyrrhiza glabra root normalizes the functioning of the nervous system, helps combat rapid fatigue and chronic tiredness, and normalizes sleep. Glycyrrhiza glabra root has a positive effect on the hormonal system and increases the body’s resistance to oxygen deficiency.
The medicinal properties of Glycyrrhiza glabra root also include beneficial effects on the liver and urinary system. It is recommended to take it for various kidney pathologies, pyelonephritis, urolithiasis, inflammation of the urinary bladder. In this case, Glycyrrhiza glabra will be especially effective in combination with other herbs such as knotweed, horsetail, and birch buds. Glycyrrhiza glabra root helps restore liver function. It reduces the likelihood of developing liver cancer and cirrhosis. In addition, Glycyrrhiza glabra is an excellent detoxifying agent, making it useful for treating poisonings and neutralizing the toxic effects of certain medications.
Method of application
Decoction: 10 grams of dried Glycyrrhiza glabra root per cup of hot water. Keep in a water bath for 20-30 minutes, then strain and bring to the original volume. Use 1-2 tbsp. spoon half an hour before meals, three times a day. It is enough for children to take a teaspoon of decoction or infusion 3 times a day.
Infusion: 1 tsp per glass of boiling water, leave for an hour, then strain. Take a third of a glass before meals three times a day.
Contraindications
Glycyrrhiza glabra is contraindicated during pregnancy, in cases of hypertension, heart diseases (myocarditis, pericarditis), water-salt imbalance, and liver cirrhosis. Glycyrrhiza glabra root should be used with caution by people suffering from glaucoma and diabetes.
