Healing properties
Lovage has a wide range of medicinal properties:
- an increased amount of potassium salts, vitamin “C”, as well as carotene and essential oils, which give plant raw materials a specific taste and aroma;
- root has a tonic effect on the stomach and intestines, improves appetite, reduces the risk of flatulence;
- the roots stimulate bile and urination, as well as phlegm;
the root system is able to reduce the level of nervous excitability; - lovage can be used in the treatment of heart conditions, bronchitis, and also as a diaphoretic and mouthwash;
- a decoction based on the roots is used to strengthen the hair follicles and well prevents premature loss.
- Tinctures and decoctions of lovage root remove excess fluid from the body and reduce swelling caused by heart and kidney disorders. They are used to eliminate pain in the stomach.
- Unwanted “tenants” – worms – strongly dislike this plant, as it quickly expels them.
Method of application
For general health improvement of the body, improvement of the gastrointestinal tract and stimulation of digestion, for gout, rheumatism, colds, coughs, decreased potency, heart diseases (arrhythmias, shortness of breath), the following recipe for water infusion is recommended: 1 tsp. of crushed lovage root brew 1 cup of boiling water (200 ml). After infusing for 1 hour (better in a thermos), strain and drink 1/2 cup half an hour before meals 3 times a day.
Alcohol tincture: an excellent tonic that strengthens the body. Stimulates potency and prevents early ejaculation. Additionally, lovage root infused in an alcoholic solution eliminates gum inflammation and bad breath: Pour 50 g of root with 0.5 liters of 40% alcohol or vodka. Insist for 2-3 weeks in a dark, cool place, periodically shaking the drug. Strain, take 30-40 drops 3 times a day before meals, diluting with a small amount of water (50-100 ml).
Contraindications
Preparations from lovage root should not be used in cases of individual intolerance, pregnancy, lactation, kidney and bladder inflammation, as well as uterine and hemorrhoidal bleeding.
