Healing properties
In folk medicine, gentian preparations are used to improve appetite, prevent and treat diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Gentian preparations are especially useful in the complex treatment of dyspepsia, loss of appetite, heartburn, and high acidity of gastric juice (drink tincture of the root in wine or vodka).
In Iranian folk medicine, gentian preparations have been used for treatment since the time of Avicenna:
- urinary disorders;
- menstrual disorders;
- liver and spleen diseases;
- healing of purulent wounds and treatment of vitiligo;
- detoxification of insect and animal venoms (spider, scorpion, snake).
- In this case, a plaster with crushed gentian root was applied to the bite site.
Method of application
Decoction: one teaspoon of finely chopped root per glass of boiling water (200 ml); insist on fire for 7-10 minutes; take one glass 3 times a day.
Tincture in vodka or wine: 2 teaspoons or 1 tablespoon per glass of wine or vodka; insist for 3 weeks; take two tablespoons, 3 times a day before meals.
Contraindications
Arterial hypertension with high blood pressure, gastric and duodenal ulcers, pregnancy.
