Description

A multifunctional plant with powerful bioactive potential

Calendula is one of the most famous medicinal plants with a long history of use in herbal medicine. Due to its unique biochemical composition, it is widely used in health maintenance programs, skin care, normalization of metabolic processes and as a natural aid in a comprehensive approach to prevention.

Active ingredients:

  • Flavonoids (rutin, isorhamnetin, quercetin) – have antispasmodic, choleretic and capillary-strengthening effects
  • Triterpenoids — promote tissue repair and have anti-inflammatory potential
  • Coumarins — participate in the regulation of blood clotting and have a mild detoxifying effect
  • Essential oils – exhibit natural antiseptic and bacteriostatic activity
  • Carotenoids (lutein, β-carotene) — antioxidants that support cellular health
  • Sterols are natural analogues of cholesterol that can help lower it in the blood.

Properties of calendula:

Anti-inflammatory effect

Calendula is traditionally used to reduce inflammation, both internal (especially in the digestive system) and external (for skin irritations).

Reparative effect

Calendula flowers promote the regeneration of damaged tissues and stimulate epithelialization of mucous membranes, which is especially important for ulcerative lesions and erosions (stomach, intestines, oral cavity).

Antimicrobial activity

Calendula extracts are active against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as some fungal pathogens.

Choleretic and hepatoprotective effects

Calendula is used as part of herbal remedies to normalize the functioning of the liver and gallbladder, improve bile outflow, and prevent stagnation in the hepatobiliary system.

Antispasmodic effect

It can help reduce muscle spasms, especially in the gastrointestinal tract, making it useful for functional digestive disorders.

Immunomodulatory effect

Thanks to flavonoids and carotenoids, calendula supports the immune system, especially during the off-season and during increased stress

Cardiotonic action

In some phytoprotocols, calendula is used as an aid to maintain heart rhythm, reduce excitability, and normalize blood pressure.

External use:

in the form of infusions and decoctions for treating skin irritation, dryness, and oiliness;

as a natural lotion for sensitive or problematic skin;

in hair care – to strengthen the roots and reduce excessive oily shine of the scalp.

How to use:

For internal use: 1 tbsp. of flowers per 200 ml of boiling water, infuse for 20–30 minutes. Take 0.5 cup 2–3 times a day 20 minutes before meals.

Externally (rinsing, compresses, gargling): 1 tbsp. pour 200 ml of boiling water, keep in a water bath for 10 minutes, insist for another 30 minutes. Strain and use as needed.

Contraindications:

individual sensitivity to plants of the Asteraceae family (asters);

hypotension (low blood pressure);

pregnancy (mainly the first trimester);

It is not recommended to combine with sedatives and antihypertensive drugs without consulting a doctor.
